About the Workshops and the Instructor

The " Icornology" workshops are specifically designed for intermediate and advanced English learners who want to improve their English, but are bored with typical teaching methods and materials. Students will sign up only for topics that interest them. After all, it's much easier to learn when the information presented is of particular interest to you.

Matthew (Matt)

Each workshop begins with a 20-minute warm-up, "Ice Cream Social." This activity will help you enter the class with greater willingness, focus and openness. This will take place in the ice cream shop next door. ( Send me a photo of your coffee or ice cream receipt to get a 10% discount on the next workshop .) Then, we'll enter the building to begin the class.

Once everyone is seated, we'll typically spend 60 minutes discussing the chosen topic, accompanied by exercises. After this time, the group will take a 5-minute break. This can take place inside the classroom or, if preferred, on the building's terrace.

After the break, we'll have 10 to 15 minutes to review the material that we had discussed before the break. This will help guide the final activity, which will take about 15 more minutes. What happens during this activity will vary depending on the topic we covered in class. It will serve as a fun way to reinforce the material we just learned: if the class was about science, it could be a lab exercise; a history lesson could lead to a role-play where we represent historical figures; or, if we're discussing a movie, we could act out the most relevant scene.

The goal is for you to leave feeling more confident ... and, hopefully, eager to sign up for a future workshop.
